Paul Melanson brings over 25 years of experience and commitment to teaching players of all ages to love the game of hockey.
His hockey coaching career began in 1995 with the Conard High School Varsity Boys Chieftans, where he led the team to a State Championship during his 10 year career with the team. Paul also joined the Northwest Catholic Boys Varsity Hockey coaching staff for 2 years.
Most recently, Paul led the Simsbury High School Varsity Girls as Head Coach. In his 7 year tenure, the SHS Varsity Girls team won 2 State Championships and numerous Conference Titles. In 2019 and 2020, Paul was named Coach of the Year.
Paul has coached all levels of Youth Hockey with relentless dedication to developing hockey players on and off the ice. He introduced the American Development Model (ADM) framework of hockey training to Simsbury Youth Hockey Association during its inception over 10 years ago and continues to play a leadership role in the SYHA program.
In the off season, Paul has been on the ice supporting multiple development camps for players of all ages, including camps led by NHL players Ben Smith (Chicago Blackhawks) and Tommy Cross (Boston Bruins) as well as Robby Glantz, Power Skating Coach and Consultant to the NHL.
Paul currently leads both the First Step Hockey Learn to Skate and Midget U16 and U18 programs for Simsbury Youth Hockey.
He is excited to continue his passion for teaching and invites players across the state who are looking to continue their training this summer to come join the fun!
For each CT Hockey program, guest coaches with coaching and playing experience ranging from Varsity High School through Professional hockey will be invited to participate accordingly. Additional biographies to follow.
